Our Firm
We are an eight person firm based in Anderson, Indiana, established in 1987.
Our specialties include accounting and bookkeeping services, financial statement preparation, payroll preparation and tax reporting, and income and other tax planning and preparation for businesses and individuals. Our clients come back to us year after year because they know they are in good hands. We work hard to develop long-term client relationships; whether your needs are simple or complex, we can help.
Our People
Michael P. Mahoney, CPA, graduated from Anderson University in June, 1970 and began his caareer with the regional public accounting firm Geo. S. Olive & Co.(now BKD, LLP)that same year. In July, 1973 he returned to Anderson, IN where he continues practicing public accounting. For over 40 years he has been providing tax and accounting services to individuals and businesses.
Jay A. Heineman, CPA, is a seven year veteran of the United States Air Force and a 1981 graduate of Ball State University. Upon graduation he joined the local accounting firm of Chastain, Due & Thomas in Anderson, IN. After five years as a staff accountant he became a shareholder in the newly-formed accounting firm May, Mahoney & Heineman, PC (now Mahoney, Heineman & Co., PC). Throughout his career of nearly 30 years, Mr. Heineman has served on numerous local not-for-profit boards. Mr. Heineman's specialties include small business accounting, income and other tax services, as well as income, estate and gift tax services for individuals, trusts and estates.
Richard H. Baker, CPA, graduated from Ball State University in 1975, and also attended Purdue University and Temple University. While attending school he worked at various factories. In 1975 he started working in public accounting with R.J. Whitinger in Anderson, IN. After receiving his CPA license in 1978, Mr. Baker worked as a Controller for a wire spring manufacturer and an apparel wholesaler for 17 years before returning to public accounting with Mahoney, Heineman & Co., PC in 1996. Mr. Baker combines his hands on business experience and tax knowledge to assist clients.
Boyce Wood is a United States Air Force veteran who graduated from Anderson University in 1967. He began his accounting career with the Internal Revenue Service. For the past 30 years he has been with Mahoney, Heineman & Co. PC, or its predecessors. Mr Wood specializes in tax consulting and preparation for individuals and businesses.
Fred Zuck, CPA, has provided accounting and tax services to a variety of business and individual clients for over 25 years. Mr Zuck, a Wabash College graduate who completed his accounting work at Indiana University, has considerable experience working with construction industry and not-for-profit organizations. Mr. Zuck is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Indiana CPA Society.
Our History
The firm began business operations on January 1, 1987 providing general accounting, bookkeeping and tax services to businesses and individuals under the name of May, Mahoney & Heineman, PC after Michael P. Mahoney left the partnership of Chastain, Due & Thomas, CPA's along with one of the other partners and several staff members. In 1995 the firm name was changed to Mahoney, Heineman & Co. PC. We have operated continuously at our current location at 100 W. 11th Street since 1992. In 1997 an existing accounting firm was acquired in Pendleton, IN, and those offices remain in operation at 104 N. Pendleton Ave.
Our Credentials
We are members of the Private Companies Practice Section of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Indiana CPA Society. We have participated in the Peer Review Program since our inception. Our last review was conducted for the period ended January 31, 2009 and we received a PASS rating.
